IBS, Chronic Sinusitis, Overweight
Thank you so much for all of your assistance with the LEAP program. The last 3 months have been life changing.
I have suffered from inflammation related issues (IBS, Chronic Sinusitis, joint pain, headaches, fatigue and difficulty losing weight) for years. Years of medical testing and taking countless medications had resulted in fleeting periods of relief and very little overall change. I was told by many doctors that I was perfectly healthy. I was left feeling depressed and helpless. After researching the impact of food sensitivities on thyroid functioning and hormones, I came across MRT testing and the LEAP protocol. Fortunately, I quickly found Sandra's information online. Desperate for the answers that I have been searching for over the past 20 years, I jumped at the chance to get started. After receiving my MRT test results I sat down with Sandra to review my beginning stages of the LEAP diet protocol. I was surprised to find that I had reacted mostly to food colorings and additives. I also had reacted to many foods that I had viewed as healthy (carrots, celery, beets, pineapple). Sandra helped me to go through the list of foods that I could eat during each stage of the plan. I was nervous and skeptical. Could I stick to this restricted list of "safe" foods? Would this really be any different than every other diet or supplements that I had tried?
The first couple of days were very tough. I was faced with temptations daily and planning for each meal was time consuming. Within a week, I started to notice improvements in my headaches and intestinal pain. In addition to the improvements in my health, I was losing weight. I could not believe that I was losing weight while still eating potatoes, milk and cheese. With each stage of the program I was able to add in more foods. My cravings for foods that I was not supposed to be eating dissipated. I suddenly had more energy than I have had in years. I stopped taking the daily antihistamine that I had been taking for years and I was shocked to see that my sinus issues did not return. Over the past 3 months I have seen my inflammation related symptoms almost completely disappear. Now, when I experience a headache, bloating or congestion, I can easily tie it to a new food in my diet or pinpoint the environmental factor (dust, stress) if I know that I have been sticking to my food plan. I have lost almost 15 pounds in 3 months. I consider the weight loss to be a bonus, with the improvements in my overall health and wellbeing being the ultimate prize. After only 3 months, I look at food in a completely new way. I am much more careful to avoid processed foods, I am more diligent about reading food labels, I realize that certain foods were putting too much strain on my immune system, and I now eat foods that help my body function at it best.
Thank you again for your guidance and for giving me to tools to enjoy my life again!

Migraines
I have been a migraine sufferer for almost 14 years now and they became progressively worse after the birth of my son in 2011. I knew that I did not want to take a daily prescription, but wanted to find a more natural solution to my problem. After meeting with Sandra and discovering my food sensitivities at the time, my migraines quickly faded and only came back if I got off track. It has been almost a year later since I started the diet and I am now able to eat almost all of the foods I was once sensitive to with no issues! Thanks so much Sandra for helping this girl get healthy and get her life back! I can now enjoy spending more time with my family!

Resilience is key anytime of year, but especially during the holiday season when we have lots to tackle and plenty of events to attend. You may not want to make big changes to your diet right now, but there's no time like the present to rethink your diet and lifestyle behaviors so you can feel your best and enjoy the activities you partake in. Even small changes can lead to an impactful transformation. Let's talk!

The Right Food Can Provide Relief
Do you suffer from symptoms like headaches, joint pain, anxiety, diarrhea, or reflux? And have you spent endless hours searching for answers that will alleviate your discomfort? The answers you are looking for are not always easily found and you may feel like this continuous search for relief will never end. You are not alone in your pursuit of feeling better. After visiting with numerous doctors without success, there may be one treatment option still undiscovered by you.
Melanie was in this position. She came to Nutrition Works after spending years looking for answers to her health problems. She suspected the food she was eating was making her sick, but no one had been able to verify that hunch and they sent her on her way. Every time she went to a doctor, she was told that everything was fine, but she knew that things were not fine. She had too many sick days accrued and spent too much time in pain for everything to be fine.
Melanie followed Nutrition Works’ LEAP program for food sensitivities and within six weeks she had reduced her symptoms drastically. Her symptom survey score (a tool that is used to measure symptoms all over the body) was 136 before she began the program and 27 after 6 weeks. She has generously allowed her story to be published here to share a treatment option that could provide others with relief also. In her own words, here is Melanie’s story.
Melanie’s Story
Health wise, I was considered very healthy by any doctor I would visit. I felt awful though and knew something was wrong but couldn't figure out what. I would complain to my doctor of all sorts of symptoms and I had all sorts of tests run... all showing I had nothing wrong. I would miss work and social events often, because I literally couldn't get out of bed. Whatever was going on in my body was ruining my life. So, I was referred to Nutrition Works by my physical therapist to have my food sensitivities checked. No doctor ever told me about this option.
I was having many different symptoms, some were severe enough to keep me in bed all day and some were just constantly lingering. I had migraines just about once or twice a week. I felt like I had the flu everyday... body aches, no energy, sore to the touch, cranky, bladder frequency and urgency, diarrhea, gas and bloating, burning ears, yeast infections (that were resistant to Diflucan). I felt like I had been run over by a truck and had no energy to exercise. A nap was an absolute must every day. I also had dizziness, lightheadedness, shaking, and nausea.
I had many different tests run by different doctors... blood work, endoscopy, colonoscopy, bladder installations. Every doctor said the same thing as far as me having no deficiencies or odd results. I was looked at like a hypochondriac. I felt very alone and depressed about my health and the fact that I didn't know what was wrong with me or if it would ever go away. So basically I had no treatment or relief of my symptoms prior to the LEAP program. Figuring out what foods I can eat has changed my life. I am no longer a prisoner of my "sick" body. I feel like I can do anything and not be held back. My symptoms disappeared in about a week. I feel very fortunate to have found the LEAP program.
There were many surprising foods and chemicals that came back as reactive on the test. I felt that a lot of these foods were "healthy" and I was eating lots of them. I had no idea that certain foods converted into chemicals that my body could not handle. Media and even a lot of the health and diet books I read would encourage copious amounts of these "healthy" foods. While they may be healthy to some people, they are poison to my body. I had to learn that everybody is different and what works for some may not work for others. We are not one size fits all when it comes to a healthy diet.
I would recommend the LEAP program to everyone with general aches, pains, allergies, and digestive problems that most people just put up with. It can also be a godsend to anyone who feels like something is wrong, but all of their tests are negative and their doctor finds nothing. I tell anyone that asks what I have done and they are surprised that food can have such an effect on the body.
Food sensitivities are difficult to pinpoint because obvious symptoms may not show up for 72 hours. With the passage of time, it is very difficult to identify which foods or chemicals may have caused the problems. Working with an experienced registered dietitian who is a food sensitivity specialist, like Sandra at Nutrition Works, eliminates the mystery so a custom made diet can be created.
Migraines and Bladder Pain
For a long time I hadn’t been feeling well. I had been living a very healthy lifestyle, yet still felt terrible. I had bouts of depression, mood swings, poor bladder control, migraines, severe asthma attacks, chronic pain, upset stomach/acid reflux, I couldn’t concentrate, and more. I saw something on TV about food sensitivities and searched the Internet for more information. LEAP-MRT and Nutrition Works came up, and eventually I decided to try it. I just wanted to live a normal life. The hardest part of the program was maintaining it while traveling. However after eliminating the foods I’m most sensitive to (reds and yellows) I feel so much better. Not just physically, but emotionally as well. The only thing I miss is whip cream, and watermelon. I had no idea that my frequent watermelon consumption was playing a part in how I felt every day. I frequently recommend and tell people about the LEAP program.

Interstitial Cystitis-IC
I came to Nutrition Works after having been diagnosed with IC for over fifteen to twenty years.
During those years I had been to different doctors and tried different medicines prescribed by them. The pain continued and the UTI’s continued. What I was eating and drinking was thought to be causing me the IC problem. I was supposed to watch what I drank and ate. That worked to some degree, but not completely. How was I supposed to know what I was supposed to eat and drink when everything out there seemed to bother my bladder?
I came into contact with Nutrition Works over the internet. Nutrition Works has really helped me. Am I completely free from pain? No, but I now have a better idea on what I can or cannot eat or drink to lessen my pain. I learned that drinking a lot of water was one of the key elements. And if I had not taken the blood test, I would not have known exactly what foods or drinks were affecting my bladder. Now that I only drink water and stay off foods that I know trigger my bladder, I am 75-80% pain free.
I liked the LEAP program because it made me accountable. I had to record everything, and at the end I had to evaluate what it did for me. The good things that came out of this program are: my pain is better, it has made me a healthier person by not eating “junk food” and food that wasn’t good for me in the first place. Do I miss the food I used to eat? No! I still have plenty to eat. I just go about it a different way and I think about it in a different way. I have lost weight! I feel better about myself!
I would recommend Nutrition Works and the LEAP program to anyone who has these kinds of problems. Why? Because I saw good results from it. Sandra was really good to work with. Nutrition Works has been a good start for helping me be more pain free and for helping me to become a healthier person both inside and out. Thanks!
